Easter celebrations blossoming on Cedar Creek Lake

Special Easter events galore are underway on Cedar Creek Lake this weekend. On Good Friday a group of youths dressed in Biblical attire accompanied by a Liberty Baptist Church leader carrying a wooden cross filed down Main Street in Gun Barrel City reminding people it was the day Jesus died. The children handed out church literature, along with invitations to the church's Easter pageant. The Gun Barrel City church at Highway 198 and Manning Street will stage a live sketch called, "Jesus, Which Is, Which Was and Which Is To Come," on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Easter Sunday 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Other scheduled special Easter services include: * the 18th annual Easter sunrise services at Melton Rock, which is a mountain rising 700 feet above sea level 5 miles outside of Eustace on the Old Prairieville Athens Road near FM 1861. The service begins at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday. * the First Baptist Church in Gun Barrel City will stage a musical drama called, "There Stands a Cross" Sunday at 10 a.m. * the Christian Life Center Church in Gun Barrel City will host an Easter egg hunt on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will include games for children and a petting zoo. * St. Jude Catholic Church will stage an Easter egg hunt on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. * Celebration on the Lake Church in Payne Springs will feature a dramatic rendition of Luke's gospel account of the Resurrection on Sunday at 10 a.m. It is located on Highway 198 across from the Pinnacle Club entrance. * After church and hunting for Easter eggs, Whatz- Up Family Fun Park will be open all day Sunday. Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 9)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 85 degrees; 0.26 feet above pool. Big numbers of white bass and several trophy-class hybrid stripers have hit the deck. We are consistently finding the best action in 15–22 feet of water. Good go-to setups include a variety of slabs, sometimes paired with 2–3 jigs above, and the always-reliable yellow bladed jig using the proven saw tooth retrieve technique. Trolling spoons at 3 mph in 13–17 feet of water absolutely crushed the white bass. Water temperatures are currently holding around 83 degrees and will continue to rise as summer heats up over the next couple of weeks. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. Fishing patterns remain consistent. Catfish are good anchoring on humps in 12-24 feet using small shad or cut shad on the bottom, or drifting larger cut carp, drum or big gizzard shad on flats in 10-25 feet all around the lake. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
