A new author living on Cedar Creek Lake wants to start a writers’ group to support fledgling writers.
Pamela Joyce Silva, who is a member of the Writer’s League of Texas, just finished a book that is in the initial stage of edits. She described her book as a fantasy.
Silva said the Writer’s League hosts annual conferences for writers and editors in Austin that she plans to attend, and she would like to encourage other aspiring writers on Cedar Creek Lake to also go.
“I would just like to talk to others about the struggles, the hopes and just the need to write,” she said. “My learning curve has been so great that I would like to share what I know.”
Writers of all ages from beginners to those already published are invited to join the group, she said.
Silva, who is retired, said local librarians tell her they often are asked if a Cedar Creek Lake writers group exists, but one never seems to get started.
“Reading and writing is so incredibly important, and I feel like there is a lack of young people’s involvement or interest here—parental interest also” she said.
Silva acknowledged a literary club holds monthly meetings at the Library of Cedar Creek Lake, but she said it does not host the type of writers’ support group she envisions.
Silva said a recently published author of a children’s book has just joined with her to kick start the new writers’ group.
