Ruth Pimm is president of the Literary Club of Cedar Creek Lake. The organization was founded in 2000. Its current 136 members work to raise money to assist the Library of Cedar Creek Lake in its operation. During the past four years the club has raised $25,000 for the library. The club holds a monthly meeting from September through May to socialize,conduct business and present a program for members and guests. The December program featured Dallas actor Ken Freehill performing "Scratch It, Cratchit," an updated version of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," which was created by Freehill and his touring partner Darryl Allara. The show business duo tour Armed Services installations worldwide presenting performances for military personnel and their families. CedarCreekLake.com: What is the mission of your organization? Pimm: Our club's aim is to develop literature appreciation, entertain the community, encourage the reading of books and to support projects that benefit the library. Pimm: We have monthly programs that are coordinated by our program chair Wanda Bell. We have book reviews at some of the programs, but we like to have a variety of things. This month we're having the Christmas show. Next month Mike Howard of McKinney, a retired member of the U.S. Secret Service who worked helping protect the families of Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Ford, will be speaking to us. We have refreshments and socialize. It's a lot of fun. CCL.com: How do you raise money for the library? Pimm: We hold bridge tournaments and raffles. This month during the meeting we will be raffling off a purse, a dessert tray and a teapot. All of the money raised goes to the library. It is our only beneficiary. Everyone is very committed. CCL.com: How would you describe your membership? Pimm: We're like a big family. We all work together preparing refreshments and setting up. It's really just a lot of fun. At every meeting along with the Pledge of Allegiance and the devotional we share our list of concerns about any members who are ill or experiencing other problems. CCL.com: How do you attract new members to the club? Pimm: Members invite their friends to join us. At this month's meeting we are introducing three new members. We're always looking for new members and growing. We are also open to men and would love to have more men in the club.
