MABANK -- The new expanded Brookshire's Food and Pharmacy will open on Nov. 14 with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m.
Store manager Scott Andrews said the new state-of-the-art store's grand opening should appeal to customers who want to take advantage of bargains, including special prices on food and other items.
"There's going to be a lot going on," Andrews said. "The first 1,000 customers will get 1,000 points loaded to their Brookshire's Thank You Rewards Cards."
(UPDATE: A customer reports in an e-mail that many people stood in line for the grand opening on Nov. 14 hoping to receive the 1,000 bonus points if they were one of the first 1,000 customers, but store personnel reportedly told them that the bonus points would not be awarded until Saturday, Nov. 17, according to an e-mail received from an irate customer. Although the story has been online for two weeks, no one has complained about an inaccuracy with the date. The Cedar Creek Lake Chamber of Commerce events calendar notes that the ribbon cutting for the new store would take place, Wed., Nov. 14 at 10 a.m.)
Customers earn one point for every dollar they spend in Brookshire's using their rewards cards. When they reach 100 points, they are allowed to purchase gasoline at 10 cents off the regular price at the store's gas pumps up to 30 gallons.
One thousand points would reduce the price of a gallon of gas by $1.
The new Brookshire's store is next to the old store near downtown Mabank. The open store will continue operating through Nov. 13 while the new store is stocked.
The new store is virtually complete, and stocking will begin next week. The new store has been under construction for several months.
The old store will be torn down to make way for a new parking lot.
