New Brookshire's grocery store in Mabank to open mid-November; 1st 1,000 customers to get big bonus

MABANK -- The new expanded Brookshire's Food and Pharmacy will open on Nov. 14 with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. Store manager Scott Andrews said the new state-of-the-art store's grand opening should appeal to customers who want to take advantage of bargains, including special prices on food and other items. "There's going to be a lot going on," Andrews said. "The first 1,000 customers will get 1,000 points loaded to their Brookshire's Thank You Rewards Cards." (UPDATE: A customer reports in an e-mail that many people stood in line for the grand opening on Nov. 14 hoping to receive the 1,000 bonus points if they were one of the first 1,000 customers, but store personnel reportedly told them that the bonus points would not be awarded until Saturday, Nov. 17, according to an e-mail received from an irate customer. Although the story has been online for two weeks, no one has complained about an inaccuracy with the date. The Cedar Creek Lake Chamber of Commerce events calendar notes that the ribbon cutting for the new store would take place, Wed., Nov. 14 at 10 a.m.) Customers earn one point for every dollar they spend in Brookshire's using their rewards cards. When they reach 100 points, they are allowed to purchase gasoline at 10 cents off the regular price at the store's gas pumps up to 30 gallons. One thousand points would reduce the price of a gallon of gas by $1. The new Brookshire's store is next to the old store near downtown Mabank. The open store will continue operating through Nov. 13 while the new store is stocked. The new store is virtually complete, and stocking will begin next week. The new store has been under construction for several months. The old store will be torn down to make way for a new parking lot.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jun. 11)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 81 degrees; 0.46 feet above pool. The hybrid striped bass and white bass bite is on fire and with fish on a feeding frenzy! Start looking for these fish on flats throughout the lake and on edges of drop-offs, especially on cloudy and overcast days. Focus on drop-offs and along seawalls early in the mornings in 5-14 feet of water with slabs. Reports of great catches in 17–26 feet of water using silver or white slabs and spinnerbaits off the bottom with a very slow retrieve. The crappie have also migrated back into the main lake. Look for fish under bridge pylons or under docks in 3-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. Numbers of catfish can be caught targeting humps in 10-20 feet of water, but there are a lot of small fish. Bigger fish can be caught drifting cut shad, carp, drum or bream. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
