Cedar Creek Lake: Ten Must-Have Camping Essentials

Cedar Creek Lake: Ten Must-Have Camping Essentials

During your camping visit to Cedar Creek Lake, consider including these ten must-have camping essentials. Packing these items will ensure you have an enjoyable camping trip to the lake area.

Sleeping Bags – Packing sleeping bags for your camping trip will ensure you stay warm during the cooler nights. The bags will also allow for padding during your sleeping time. Sleeping bags are rated for different temperatures – depending on the time of the year.

Tents – Including a tent in your camping essentials will provide an option for shelter. Tents come in various shapes and sizes – single person, two-person, cabin style, and more. Consider using the size and style of tent most appropriate for your family.

First Aid Supplies – Packing first aid supplies can be a life-saver during your camping excursion. Include items such as bandages, itch cream, burn cream, alcohol, adhesives, gauze, scissors, and mouth barrier (for CPR).

Pocket Knives – No one should be without a pocket knife during a camping excursion. This type of knife can become a multi-purpose tool. If you plan to fish, it can cut the fishing line. If you need to reduce weeds in your camping area, the pocket knife can become useful. The blade can be used for other camping related functions.

Flashlights – Another must-have camping essential is a flashlight or other lighting means. Some campers enjoy the use of lanterns and headlamps. No matter the lighting option of choice, they will provide light when needed during the darker hours of the day or night.

Rain Jackets – Rain gear is another useful option to pack during a camping trip, even when the weather is forecast for a sunny day. Putting on the rain gear during an unexpected shower will keep your clothes dry. Also, if you plan to hike, having rain gear is a needed accessory.

Water Filters – During any outdoor activity, having water filters on hand will ensure better drinking water. Also, carry a few days' supplies of water if you have room. Water purification tablets also offer another option to drinking water without becoming sick in an emergency.

Fire Starters – If you plan to cook out during your camping trip, having a fire starter can save you time and frustration. There are a variety of options easy to use when it comes to fire starters: matches, lighter, magnesium starters, and flint-steel combos.

Maps & Compass – Packing a map and compass will help you with navigation during your camping trip. You should know your area well during your travels. And, if you plan to hike or explore the great outdoors, keep area maps with you along with navigational tools.

Toiletries – Although camping for some is to fully “rough it,” others choose to take toiletries with them on their camping trips. Toiletries include toilet paper, refuse sacks, deodorant, dry shampoo, combs, toothbrush, and shaving items. Including your mix of toiletries will enhance your camping stay.

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 15)

EXCELLENT. Slightly stained; 76 degrees; 0.12 feet above pool. Start early in the morning at daylight and hit the dam or the western shorelines of the lake and look for schooling hybrids and white bass close to seawalls and shorelines. After that fish any hump in depths of 22-28 feet throughout the lake to find fish stacked up in schools. Use spinnerbaits like a mepps#4 spinner or drop a slab down to the bottom and work it fast up and down and the fish will hit it immediately. Also throwing out a slab and reeling it back with a slow retrieve is also working well. The crappie bite has been getting increasingly better. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 3-10 feet. Quick limits are being reported. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. Some catfish are moving out deeper now that the shad spawn is about over. Blue catfish are good early in the morning along retaining walls. When this action slows focus efforts on points and humps in 10-20 feet of water with cut shad. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
