In Henderson County, the Republican candidates for sheriff in the 2016 Election Primary face a recount while candidates in Kaufman County will appear on the ballot again in a runoff race.
Billy Jack Valentine asked for a recount of the vote that pitted him againsty Botie Hillhouse. Hillhouse won 6,862 to 6,801, a difference of 61 votes. Recounts are allowed when the difference is 10 percent or less.
Hillhouse's win was less than 1 percent.
In Kaufman County, Bryan Beavers won 42.85 percent of the vote compared to Tim Spillman who took 43.55 percent. A third candidate, Bryant received only 13.6 percent of the vote. Under Texas law, a runoff automatically occurs when no candidate receives at least 50 percent of the vote plus one.
