Kaufman County to crack down on erroneous property tax exemptions

The Kaufman County Appraisal District plans to purchase computer software to search the county's property tax roll for false exemptions.

The Kaufman Herald reported that the district's board of directors approved spending $50,000 to use the LexisNexis Risk Solutions program.

It will target such exemptions as property owners who claim homestead exemptions in more than one county and properties receiving exemptions filed by owners who died or relocated.

A test of the product involving 25,000 properties found 13 percent oif them to be questionable, according to district officials.

The company told local officials the program was used in Fort Bend County in Texas, and it identified $2.3 million in erroenous exemptions.

The $50,000 fee will be paid from a surplus in the 2015 budget.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Sep. 3)

EXCELLENT. Water stained; 84 degrees; 1.06 feet below pool. Catfish are good on main lake humps and flats in 12-24 feet on cut shad and other usual baits like shrimp or prepared baits. A lot of shad moving back in creeks, other fish will later follow. Drifting larger cut bait is best for bigger fish. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures. Consistently finding the best action in 13-18 feet of water. Good go-to setups include a variety of slabs, spinners and the always-reliable yellow bladed Bo Blade spinner using the proven saw tooth retrieve technique. Trolling pet spoons with a hellbender set-up at 3 mph in 13–17 feet of water is absolutely crushing the white bass on several humps throughout the lake. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service.
