The Flying Grape & Bean Coffee Gift House is not the type of cafe you might expect to find in the rural area of the Gun Barrel City Airpark. From the tastefully decorated rooms to the unique menu of gourmet coffees, Frappaccinos, exotic teas, soups, salads, Paninis, cold and grilled sandwiches and exquisite desserts, The Flying Grape is a delight in every respect. Owner Vicki Irwin's imaginative decorative skills and culinary expertise make it a delightful experience. The extras on the sandwiches such as avocados, gorgonzola, cranberries, cheese artichokes and Dijon make them really special and different from anything else available around the Cedar Creek Lake area. There are also several vegetarian dishes to please every taste. As the menu points out, "it's not fast food - great food." The menu even includes breakfast items Paninis, French toast, crepes and super crepes. Whether you are flying in or out of the private airport or you just want to pass the time in a charming atmosphere, it is a stop well worth making. The coffees, teas, jars of pickles and other items served in the cafe are available for purchase in the gift shop. The Flying Grape is at 1223 Harbor Point Road, Gun Barrel City, TX 75156. Call 903-887-8686. It is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday it is closed.

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Sep. 24)

EXCELLENT. Water slightly stained; 77 degrees; 1.71 feet below pool. Consistently finding the best hybrid action in 13-18 feet of water with slabs, and spinnerbaits using the proven saw tooth retrieve technique. Trolling spoons with a hellbender set-up at 3 mph in 13-17 feet of water is absolutely crushing the white bass on several humps throughout the lake. As water temperatures decrease into the low 70s we will target big hybrids on shallow ledges and humps with Alabama rigs. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck's Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. The catfish pattern will remain consistent until cooler weather arrives. Catfish are good anchoring on humps in 12-24 feet fishing small shad or cut shad on the bottom. Drifting larger cut bait like carp, drum or big gizzard shad on flats in 10-25 feet throughout the lake. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
