The Victorian Lady Tea Room in Historic Dowtown Mabank is definitely one of those places that women like to go for lunch and chat, but the wholesome fare attracts a lot of male customers as well. The soup of the day, such as spicy Mexican Chicken and tasty Vegetable of the Day, is served with garlic toasties and a mini muffin. The salads include Chicken Supreme, Crab Salad, Chicken Walnut and Spinach Salad. Sandwiches of Chicken Salad, Jalapeno Pimento Cheese with Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato and Ham and Cheese or Turkey and Swiss are served with chips, fruit garnish and a mini muffin. If all of them sound good you can get the Duet, which is a cup of soup and half sandwich, cup of soup and Quiche or a salad and half sandwich. The Trio allows you to get all three. The Petite allows you to get just a half sandwich, half salad or quiche plate. The tea room is also famous for its Hot Fudge Sundae Cake, Chocolate Delight Pie and Cream Cheese Pound Cake. You also be asking for refills on the Spiced Tea and Gourmet Coffee. The tea room has a banquet room for large gatherings. It is open Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The tea room is at 114 E. Market St., Mabank, TX 75147. Call 903-887-1837.

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 20)

EXCELLENT. Stained; 62 degrees; 0.08 feet below pool. The hybrid striped bass and white bass have recently been staging in the creek arms to spawn these past few weeks. Fish are now coming back into the main lake in droves to recover from the spawn and are on a feeding frenzy. Look for heavy bird activity throughout the lake on flats and near the dam on edges of drop offs especially on cloudy and overcast days. The bite will continue to get even better in these areas as the shad spawn will start to take place in the next 2-3 weeks across the lake. Retrieve shiny slabs or spinnerbaits off the bottom at a very slow retrieve to catch these fish in depths of 17-26 feet of water. The crappie bite has picked up in the creeks and inlets in 2-10 feet of water throughout the entire lake. We are now seeing the crappie migrate back into the main lake. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 4-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service.
